Question

Lag time in Premiere Pro and other issues from a newbie

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me help one of my co-workers! I'm the administrator of Adobe for my company (I do the trouble shooting) but she uses Premiere Pro, but I do not. She's having the following issues:

  • Lag time with “play/stop” button response
  • Choppy audio and visuals when playing project (audio sometimes even cuts out completely, and visuals sometimes stall completely even if project still says it’s playing)
  • Audio is not always aligned with visuals when playing project, despite audio and visuals being aligned in my layers
  • Slow response when edits are made within project

Thanks!

Tara

What video codecs are you editing and what are your specs? You could try no input for audio as well as ASIO4ALL drviers. That being said some audio devices are problematic for Premiere Pro.

Another issue it could be is this:

Many users are having issues with VFR. If the file is variable frame rate, use Hand brake to convert to constant frame rate:

Hi Tara,

Thanks for the note. We call these "performance" issues in support. There are a good number of things that can go wrong with performance. I'd say, the longer you've been an editor, the more aware you are of these details. Most often, the computer is either not powerful enough, or the media is to "heavyweight" and needs to be addressed. Sometimes you can fix it easily, other times it takes changes to your workflow or even new hardware. What helps is to know exactly the details of the computer, the hard drive setup, and the media she is using.

These articles may help.

After going through these troubleshooting steps, let us know what worked and/or if you still need help.

Thanks,
Kevin
