Link Media Problem

Whenever we send media offline to link media,sometimes it catches   wrong file and link it and when I see it on timeline it shows cross on wrong  link. Then again we have to offline it and again link it media so in this process it path changes. How can we know  about  original  media is in which hard drive,  clip or folder in so many  folders n clips...
