Literally 10 to 15 second delay on premier playback

Can anyone help me with this? Premier is taking literally 10 to 15 seconds to playback every single time I press the spacebar or play button. This is the most frustrating thing on earth when you're trying to get a project done with a deadline. I've searched all types of forms and can't find the answer. Please help!!

 

I have premier 14.0.1 installed on a Macbook Pro. See the image for specs.

Thank you for providing system specifications. We would need more info to troubleshoot.

  • What type of media files are you working with [Codec/Format, Frame rate, Frame size]?
  • Are you using any third-party plugins? If yes, remove them temporarily and see if it helps.
  • Is it happening with a specific project?
