Live type is getting cropped. (Could this be a bug??)

I want a large letter "A"  to simply fly into my screen but when I move it to the first position (which is partially off the screen) it crops the letter so that whatever part of the "A" that was off the screen is missing when I make the letter fly into view. In other words only half of the "A" is there because the other half was positioned off-screen. Is this a bug or is there something I don't know about using live type?
