Is it possilble to do a live broadcast video recording into Premiere?

We are a school wanting to upload our classes.

Our setup right now are a few cameras connected to a video switcher, into a Epiphan video capture card and HDMI into a laptop.  We want to record direct into Premiere, edit and upload to our site.  Is this possible?

The short answer is - I don't think what you want to achieve is possible. (anyone please correct me).

While not familiar with Epiphan.

I don't see anywhere to indicate that Epiphan hardware works with Premiere Pro. If that is true - you are stuck with recording with Epiphan externally and then imported the recording into Premiere Pro after the class is complete.

Premiere Pro does have a feature to allow the importing of 'growing files' (i.e. clips that are still recording) However I think Epiphan only records in H.264 files (?) and this are not one of the codecs supported by the 'growing file' function in Premiere Pro.*

... so I think the only way to what you wnat to do is to get an alternative capture device (Blackmagic Design or AJA are great options). These devices are supported by Premiere Pro and would allow 'direct capture' from your vision switcher output to Premiere Pro.

* even if this was possible you would need to have the Epiphan recording to a shared drive that Premiere Pro had access to.

Hi, Steve.

I'm not sure if Epiphan would work, but it seems similar to Blackmagic.

I'll do a little bit more digging around.  Thanks for the tips!
