Question

Lumetri vignette makes video look compressed

I am trying to get a nice render in h264 mpg

However, I noticed that the vignette, in Lumetri is making the neon glows in the room look worst that the original mpg supply. I have been very sure to make sure media encoda is full render depth.

But it would seem the source is of the compression os within Pr when I had a Limetri vignette applied. I have also set the preview in Pr to mx color depth. It could be that this is the drawback of Mpg generally as a destructive format. But I want to be sure I am not missing anything?

Ps image upload is nor working 'Component didn't load. Please try again later.'

Best regards Julian

  • What settings do you use when you export to H.264?
  • Does it look the same if you export to ProRes?

More or less the default H264, except with Max color depth and quality switched on. It looked ok in the end. I had to render it out. I didn't go straight to Pro Res HQ (didn't really have time). I think maybe there was some oddity with the vignette, or maybe something I'm doing wrong. When I get a chance I will look into it more, and get back.

Try turning off 'composite colour' in the sequence settings.

Hey Joolsey1973,

I'm sorry to hear about this. For clarification, do you see the issue only with the exported file, or do you see it in the preview as well? What type of source files are you working with? Do you still see the banding if you set the Format to Quicktime and the Codec to Prores 422 in your export settings? We're here to help.

Thanks,

Ishan

Hi Ishan, thank you for the reply.

The banding is in the preview. Only when I add the vignette. There maybe other effects I am unaware of, but that is noticable with this on. My graphics renders are 32bit from after effects and look fine.

The supplied footage is .mpg extention with a Pro-res LT codec. (as I think it came from a apple phone),and  as we are working over the web, and full pro-res is a bit large for a 10 minuet edit.  I have max bit depth on and quality on in the settings, but really I can't see any difference with these options on or off. I would like to keep it off if media encoder overrides it as my machine is very under powered. (Does media encoder overide on a side note?)

I started the project off by draging the supplied edit footage on the timeline, (to conform). I guess that is right?

It isn't a deal breaker. Having come from a Apple FCP background I found a lot of those colourbit issues where rare. I am using  'Pr' out of necessity more than anything. As I have a PC at home.

I am finding Ae and Pr very laggy with this machine.

Thanks for sharing the details. If you set your preview to Apple Prores 422 HQ, does that make any difference? If that does not fix the issue, will it be possible for you to share the source media for testing purposes?
