Maybe a fresh install of Pr and Useing the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems
might help.
1. I trashed the preferences and emptied trash.
2. I uninstalled all my CC software using the supplied Uninstallers.
3. I ran the Cleaner Tool.
4. Restarted computer.
5. Reinstalled Premiere Pro and Media Encoder software.
The problem persists.
When I use the Lumetri eyedropper tool on the window in my "Video Device," (a SmallHD 1703 P3X calibrated monitor connected via HDMI) Premiere freezes.
1. The eyedropper icon in the Lumetri panel turns blue.
2. Clicking the mouse results in an "Action Failure" sound effect, with no visible change to the interface.
3. File>Quit Premiere... is grayed out.
4. The dock icon still shows "Quit" but it has no effect.
5. "Save" will still work (thank goodness).
6. The only solution I have found is "Force Quit..."
Work-around:
I have realized that eyedropping on the Source panel in the primary monitor works fine. It took me awhile to figure this out. Cut me some slack, I am making the switch from FCPX. When I am color correcting I spend most of my time looking at the reference monitor, and use most of my primary screen real estate for preset & effects panels, and scopes. Source has been sharing a panel with the Project bin so it is often hidden. Maybe that is not as efficient as I first thought.
I don't consider this to be "Problem Solved" as much as "Question Answered": The triggering action is a logical one and the result is a catastrophic failure. It is like a big pile of poo blocking the path. I know it is there and can avoid stepping in it, and now I know where there is another path, but it is still a pile of poo, waiting to be stepped in.
