Question

M1 Max fans louder with Premiere Pro

Hi.
I’m using Premiere Pro 26.5.2 on a Macbook Pro 14” M1 Max 10/32 64 on MacOS 15.8. I have a Caldigit TS4 plugged into it.
My main UI screen is a LG4K external monitor plugged into the TS4 (DP-->DP). I’m using my Macbook screen as a second monitor. An EIZO CG247X, plugged into the TS4 (TB-->DP) is used for Transmit.
Firsly, I noticed the fans are spinning louder if the LG is not set to its native resolution.
Secondly, I noticed the fans are spinning even louder when enabling Mercury Transmit on the EIZO (set to its native resolution).
Lastly, on another note, I noticed the timeline is less snappy when I put the Audio Track Mixer on the Macbook screen.
I don’t recall fans getting louder under these circumstances with prior versions of Premiere, because I noticed it in the last weeks (and I thought it was related to decoding some files, but it’s not).
I just wanted to know if these issues ring a bell to some of you, as it becomes more annoying to work with my M1 Max, which was silent before (not when exporting, but that’s not an issue).

Thanks!
Max

    Hi Max,

Thanks for the detailed report. I'm curious how Premiere Pro performs when you disconnect the CalDigit TS4 and all external displays and work exclusively on the MacBook Pro's built-in display. Are the fans still louder than usual, and does the timeline feel more responsive?

Also, when was the last time everything worked as expected? Do you recall which version of Premiere Pro and macOS you were running at that point?

Has anything changed since then, such as a Premiere Pro or macOS update, display settings, dock firmware, or anything else in your setup?

Knowing whether the behavior occurs without external devices and what changed around the time it started would help narrow down the cause. I hope the community can assist.

    Thanks!
    Kevin
