Question

Macbook freezing when connected to the local server

My macbook pro M4 with Sequoia 15.3.2 (24D81) keeps getting stuck on rotating wheel when I'm connected to the local server and using Adobe apps. It works perfectly when I'm not connected, and mac works perfectly when I'm connected to the server without turning on adobe apps (this happens in After Effects also). I tried reinstalling apps and it fixed the issue for two weeks but the problem is back, it is impossible to work since I have to manually turn off macbook and turn it on again, because it is not responding to anything. There is no special thing that I do it just randomly happens, sometimes after few minutes sometimes after few hours, but after the first time it freezes more and more often. Please help! I'm using Premiere Pro Version 25.2.1. Build 2

I tried connecting with the cable and it works for now. I'll try moving cache folder to local drive, just to be sure. Thanks!

Hi @laketa - It is not recommended to store your media cache files on an external drive.  Can you change these to your internal hd.

Confiming that when you get the beachball you are not able to open any other apps such as Activity Monitor?  Can you navigate to your macOS settings under Security and Privacy > Files and Folders > Adobe Premiere Pro 2025 that you have your Nas checked on.

Is there any action you can think of where you can reliably reproduce this issue?

Normally, we’d ask you to send a sample of Adobe Premiere when this issue occurs, but since your entire system locks up, that’s not possible. The best suggestion I have for now is to keep Activity Monitor open and visible while you’re working, and watch for any unusual behavior or spikes just before the system beachballs.

Hi @Dani_V. ,

Thanks for the reply. Everything is on the server, project files, video files, media cache...Depending on project they are in different folders, but everything is on the server.

Thanks a lot!

Hi @laketa,

Sorry for the frustration. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.

Are you working with any files on the server itself or where do you usually keep your project files? If you go to Premiere Pro > Settings... > Media Cache, is your cache being saved locally on your computer or external drive? What are your Scratch Disk locations set to? (File > Project Settings > Scratch Disks)

Hope we can help you soon,
Dani
