"Magazine" folders from Inspire 2

When working with ProRes footage from the Inspire 2 drone I discovered that because the drone records onto SSD card that are formatted in FAT32, they have file size limitations. DJI's solution is to create magazine folders, containing all the different part of the every single recording. Combining them one after another on the timeline would, in other words, leave you with the full clip.

This is, however, not a pretty solution - as any editor would agree.

If I remember correctly, RED footage does the same thing, however Premiere reads the magazine folders from RED as single clips. Ie: Premiere automatically does the stitching job for you.

-if any Adobe officials are watching: will the same solution be implemented for DJI magazine folders as well? -cause' that would be extremely helpful.

Anyone else got any experience with working on files from the Inspire 2?
I find the workflow frustrating because of the aforementioned as well as the fact that the proxy files and the full res files are recorded with different file names, which makes conforming the timeline for grade a nightmare!

As it has not yet been done for any QuickTime media, my guess is the QuickTime format doesn't allow for such.

You may be stuck with multiple clips until the exFAT update arrives.

Sorry I can't provide any input as to your question about file formats, but if I may I'd be interested in hearing your impressions of the Inspire 2 in general for aerial videography. We are considering adding an Inspire 2 to our current sUAV inventory and as you obviously know from experience-- that's not a trivial investment!

I find the I2 to be an amazing tool for getting incredible shots. As I'm sure you know all the specs and details, as you are already considering the I2, I don't think I have to repeat them

The biggest issue I have with the system as of now is the one I started this thread with. I find it mesmerizing that DJI would implement this awesome feature of allowing for dual card recording, and then NOT create a system that would actually benefit the creators in post production. -feels like we've been set back 5-8 years or so, to the "good" ol' "shoot full res, render proxies over night, start your edit" workflow.

I don't know your company, and I don't know what you would consider the I2 for - however, apart from the issue above, I have nothing but good to say about the drone - and the entire system. It brings a ton of value and opens up a whole new world of possibilities.

Thanks much for the input Torgeir. Unfortunately your glowing review will only nudge us even closer to spending more $$$.

But seriously... I started out with various DJI Phantoms. Marketing forces led to get more into mapping for various companies and 3DR's Solo proved to be a good quad for that purpose. We've got a half dozen Solos but as they've stopped making them we've begun to look elsewhere. We've had some higher end inquires for drone video but I really didn't feel the Solos were capable of delivering the kind of quality needed. It does look like the I2 could work very well for both types of work.

It doesn't look like the SSD Fat 32 issues you outlined is anything that can be remedied via any kind of firmware update but I would not be surprised if some enterprising 3rd party might come up with a hardware workaround.
