Is there a way to color correct select frames within a larger clip?

Yes, use the Blade tool to cut the long clip into smaller sections on the timeline, apply the color correction to the portion(s) that need it. If you want you can add disolves between sections to smooth out the color correction differences between sections of the long clip.
