Question

Markers not working

Hi all...Is the following a bug in version 25.3.0? I've placed markers throughout a sequence that is an interview. The markers note different sound bites. I find that when I have the markers panel open and when I click on a marker to go to that part of the interview, then Premiere Pro will take me to that location in the timeline. BUT once I hit the space-bar to play, the playhead indicator jumps to the spot I last played in the timeline before I clicked on the marker (in the marker panel) to go elsewhere. I do not have any mark in's or out's in this sequence. Looping is turned off. This happens all the time and it's really annoying because it basically means I can’t play at the markers that I’ve placed. Has anyone else come across this? Is there a setting I should have off or on? Advice appreciated. Thank you.

Is your sequence playing in the Source or Program Monitor?

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for asking. My sequence is playing on the source side. I have two timelines open: a timeline showing me the sequence in the source and a second timeline showing me the sequence that is open in the program monitor. The wrench icon on the source side allows me to choose to “Open sequence in the timeline” and I stack the two timelines, one atop the other. In the sequence in the source monitor (this sequence has markers throughout), let’s say the playhead on the source side is parked at “0” seconds (the start of the sequence) and I have a marker placed twenty seconds in. If I click on the marker, the playhead (red in color to indicate that I’m seeing the timeline for the source side) will move to the 20 second spot. If you hit “play” (spacebar) you’d expect that the sequence would play from there (from the marker at 20 seconds in and where the red position indicator sits). But that’s not what happens. Instead, the playhead jumps back to zero and plays from there. This has the effect of making markers not very usable, because jumping to a marker and hitting play does not play at that point, but jumps back to where the playhead was before the marker was clicked. Is this a bug? It’s certainly annoying! Insights welcome. Thanks all. -John

Navigating markers with the Markers panel can be a little buggy when it’s a sequence loaded in the Source monitor, but I find if you first click a marker directly in the Source monitor, after that, clicking a marker in the Markers panel will hold it’s position even when you press play.
