Markers Panel -- Feature requests (compilation)

1 - Improve control over Marker-to-Playhead cuing

How would you like the feature to work?

Single-clicking a marker when Source/Program are paused will cue the playhead.

But clicking while playing will not cue the playhead.

Would be great to have the option of cueing the playhead while in play.

Consider: Single clicking does not cue a marker.  Make that a double click, and make it available both in pause or play.

Currently double-clicking a marker opens a Marker entry popup.  Perhaps move that to a context-click (right click) or Alt-Cick

Why is this feature important to you?

More articulate control over use of markers

2 -  Marker Functionality -- increased integration with PPro ecosystem.

How would you like the feature to work?

Ability use Metadata properties on markers.  Metadata applied to markers wouldn't necessarily have to embed in the file.  The benefit would be in unifying categories headers and contents so that both clips and markers within clips could be tagged in a way that lends itself to conceptual consistency.

Why is this feature important to you?

App consistency / project & workflow consistency and efficiency.

3 -  Title Copy & Paste / Import of exported markers

How would you like the feature to work?

Ability to move markers from one clip to another.

Either by means of copy and paste

Or by means of importing from an exported CSV or TXT

Why is this feature important to you?

The ability of someone to create markers in one project and pass those markers via a marker file for import.

Ability of copying markers from one bin instance of a clip to its duplicate.

4 - Marker Panel Functionality -- Additional features

How would you like the feature to work? .

- Ability to sort by Marker Name, Marker Comment, In point, Out Point

- Additional headers, sortable by those headers: Marker Duration (if any), Marker Color, Marker Type, and Any additional Custom-Defined Headers

- Ability to see markers across multiple bin items to increase power navigability

Why is this feature important to you?

The more navigability via markers, greater the ease of access and control from more contexts, the bigger the boost to the editing process.

5 - Improve Context Sensitivity of the Markers Panel.

How would you like the feature to work? .

The current logic of the Markers Panel's display:

It Displays markers for the currently-highlighted project item and/or panel:

  • The markers of the Source Panel's source clip the Source Panel is active;

  • of the sequence in the Program Monitor if the Program Monitor is active;

  • of a bin item if the bin his active and the item is selected.

Problems:

• Markers tend to disappear from the Markers Panel under certain circumstances, often at precisely the moment you reach to select a Marker in the Marker Panel -- like a disappearing vase from an old episode of "I Dream of Jeannie".  Not sure why yet.

• When you load a clip in the source monitor, and its markers appear in the Markers Panel, and you select on to cue the Source Panel, and then push play, the Program Monitor plays -- that even though you just loaded the source, and it was the last active panel.  Very counterintuitive

Why is this feature important to you?

In the interest of a more robust Marker ecosystem.

Single-clicking a marker when Source/Program are paused will cue the playhead.

Definitely not!  It used to work that way and it was soooo annoying.  Made it impossible to move a marker to the playhead because the playhead kept moving.

How do you mean? That's what it does now.

You mean it would be annoying for the playhead to move when you single-click a Marker?  If so, agreed.  But on a double-click or meta-key click.  It's also frustrating not to have the option.

It would be annoying for the playhead to move when you any-click a marker.

The playhead can easily be moved to a marker with a shortcut.
