marking people in home movie, then extracting clips?

Luckily I have about 20 hours of home movies from the 50-60s.  But no one wants to sit through it all - they just want to see their immediate relatives.  What's a good work flow to mark the raw video to make it easier to extract portions (eg., my immediate family, my mother's family, my father's family, neighbors)
