Mask Data - A pointless change to Premier Pro

Hey there developers of Premier Pro. I've been using Premier Pro for years, and it's such a great piece of software – but the recent update to Premier Pro has got me a bit dumbfounded. I've only recently stumbled upon this MASSIVE oversight due to being intrigued by the new masking features in Premiere Pro Beta. I've used masks a lot in the past, with copy/pasting masks from one layer to another, which makes logical sense – just as you can copy/paste effects/settings/positions/opacity from one layer to another – so I'd like to ask, why/how on earth did you guys think it was a great idea to make mask data non-copy/pasteable from one layer to another? This is a HUGE oversight, and I can't fathom how you decided it would be a good idea. The consistency of Premiere Pro is that you can copy/paste ANY setting/effect/added feature from one layer and paste it to another – but mask data is currently IMPOSSIBLE to copy/paste from one layer to another? Yet it used to be a feature (because it logically made sense to be).  So I'd like to know – when will this feature be added back? The continuity of premier pro is crumbling with this oversight – please fix it for the love of god.

Hi @Ginge_ :

In Premiere Pro 25.x, copying and pasting Masks works.

Try this:  In the Effect Controls panel, expand Opacity on a clip and draw a Elliptical Mask.  Right-click Mask (01) and choose Copy.  Go to another clip, right-click Opacity and choose Paste (make sure it's the Opacity property and no the Opacity value).

Alternative:  Select the Clip with Mask (01) applied to Opacity in the Timline and choose Edit > Copy.  Select another Clip in the Timeline and choose Edit > Paste Attributes.   In the Paste Attributes dialog box, enable Opacity and then click OK.

If using the Beta and you want to copy and paste an Unassigned Mask, use Copy and Paste Attributes.

Yep! That's right! That's how it should work, but go ahead and give it a go now on Premier Pro 2025 - it doesn't work 🙂 Annnnnnnnnnnnnd back to square 1 - this is the issue I'm reporting 😛

You can copy and paste mask to different effects and layers.

Right-click on the mask > copy

Select different clip either with or without effect > Richt click > paste

You can also copy the entire effect and paste it with the mask on a different clip.

I am indeed aware of the masking controls in ECP - I've used them, but they lack the basic feature of copy/pasting a mask - hence my post here. A simple addition removed from Premier's features - for what appears to be no reason? Everything else in ECP allows you to copy/paste/duplicate, yet not masks? Makes no sense - it must be a bug, or mistake

Are you aware of the new masking controls in the ECP? And using those?
