Masks in Premiere pro

I am trying to create multiple masks in one video clip - adjusting some shadows n 3 different places. I can create the first mask, make the exposure adjustments and it looks great. Then when I try to add another mask, and make adjustments for that mask, it seems connected to the first mask. The second mask takes on the same settings of the first mask. I need them to be different, how can I do that. I'm a bit of a beginner in premiere. Thanks!
