Massive Project Loss, unsure why

Hey, so I just lost around 5-6 hours of work, and I don't know why.
For some reason the borders between my video timelines were gone, and that prevented me from putting any Effects on a specific clip. I tried a handful of methods and none of them worked, but I noticed every time I minimized to search for a solution, the borders popped up until I went to a differrent workspace.
So, I hit Save and closed and reopened and practically everything I did was gone. I have only the bare bones of what I started with left. I was mildly worried, but I figured, "Hey, no big deal, auto-save."
I have my auto save to save every 15 minutes.
The last time it auto-saved was 5 hours ago.
I'm at a loss for words as to how to process what just happened, and if there's any way to fix this by getting a recent auto save or literally anything else, some assistance would be more than welcomed.

Are you certain you are opening the correct project? If you look at your recent projects list, are you opening the most recent?

I don't typically use the "Most Recent" function, rather, I go directly to the folder and open the project manually.
I have tried both, however, yes.

If you did not make a backup or all auto save are to old I cannot help you on this one but make a habit of SAVE A COPY do a different drive.

Okay that's fine, but I'm just looking to figure out why it happened, and see if I can't figure out a solution on my own.

Not to mention, I doubt that would've worked, because even though I kept manually saving nearly every 10 minutes, there was no saves documented in Premiere.

Save is not the same a save a copy.

FAQ: When to use "Save A Copy," or "Save As," and ...

BTW did you see the Save Project pop up after hitting ctrl+S.
