Question

Matching sequence height and width to instagram height and width without sacrificing perspective

Hey Guys!

So I'm currently editing a POV ski video shot on my Gopro 10 vertically recorded in 4k 60fps (4:3). My ultimate goal is to capture maximum vertical height with the sky and my skis on the snow. The raw footage does a good job of this (image 1) however when I changed it to 1080x1920 (the height and width of a reel)it seemed to cut off the vertical perspective of the footage and zoomed in. How do I editorially handle this?

Kevin has the specific steps.

The problem is you recorder a 3:4 aspect ratio image, and 1080x1920 is a 9x16 aspect ration, much 'taller'.

So you can fix this either by scaling the image to fill the height of the current frame. Or by changing your sequence aspect ratio to 3:4 to match the original image.

Hi Eric,

In the Effect Controls panel, under Motion, reduce Scale and adjust Position. Happy Holidays!
