Media offline dialog box popping up in Premiere Production after relinking previously

Hello!

I recently started working on a project where the team is working in a Premiere Production, and at one point they started using LucidLink to store media instead of leaving it on a drive. There were also some file names that were changed. They relinked everything after moving the files to Lucid, and the media is online when I’m working inside the projects, but every time I open the projects I’m prompted with the Link Media dialog box saying the media is still on the old drive.

I’m trying to fix this issue so the team can work in the projects throughout the Production without being prompted to link the media every time they open them. I tried deleting the media cache before relinking, pinning all of the files and projects on Lucid, relinking everything when the Link Media dialog box pops up, then immediately saving and waiting overnight before closing the projects, but the box still pops up the next time I open the project.

I also noticed that if I relink certain clips in the Media projects, those same clips will still show up in the Link Media dialog box as offline when I open a Sequence project which has sequences that contain those clips.

My team and I are working in the 2026 version of Premiere. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks so much!!

I hit this exact issue last week, so hopefully this saves you some time.

One diagnostic question first: when the Link Media dialog opens, are the clip names blank? Mine were. If yours look the same, we might have the same problem. The other tells that matched: clips marked offline in the dialog showing up online once the project opened, and the dialog returning on the next open even after relinking and saving immediately.

Here's what was happening. A .prproj doesn't store one location per clip, it stores several: the path Premiere checks at load, the last successfully resolved path, and one or more relative paths. When media moves, those are all supposed to update together. If they don't, the project disagrees with itself. Premiere checks the stale entry at open, fails, and prompts you. You dismiss the dialog, it falls back to another entry that works, and the clip comes online. But resolving that way never writes the correction back to the entry checked first, so saving preserves the disagreement and the dialog returns.

The box isn't reporting broken media, it's reporting a contradiction, and relinking through the box is the one thing that doesn't fix it. That's also why deleting the media cache and saving overnight did nothing. It was never a cache problem.

Detaching proxies and then re-attaching is worth trying first and will fix it, but it only worked one clip at a time for me, which was useless at roughly 8000 clips. If your count is manageable, start there.

What actually fixed mine: I uploaded the .prproj to Claude and had it work on the file directly. It rewrote only the proxy records and left the deliberately offline files untouched, so those still point at the original media and will relink properly later. The project now opens with no dialog.

Hello! I wanted to share some updates to this as I’ve continued working on it.

I have a version of this project that is basically the Production converted into a regular Premiere Project. I am having the same issue with the Project so I don’t think it’s a Production issue.

When I tried relinking the project through the dialog box that pops up when I open it, I was able to get graphic elements to relink (and not show up in the dialog box the next time I opened the project), but not the media from the camera. I also noticed that there were some clips that I marked as offline in the dialog box, but they were online once I opened the project, so it seems like what I did with the camera media in the relinking dialog box didn’t stick once I was in the project.

The project is set up with raw mxf files that we have purposely made offline and attached proxies that are online. Both the raw and proxy files are showing up in the Link Media dialog box – I’ve been marking the raw files as offline and locating and linking the proxy files. Unfortunately I’m still running into the same issue where the dialog box pops up every time I open the project. But the clips are online when I’m in the project, so really the issue is just that I’d like to get rid of the box popping up.

    Thank you!!
