Media Pending/Beachball On Project Open

Have a project that hangs up the program with Media Pending and a beachball every 2-3 times I open it. Doesn't happen every time though but has happened with multiple sequences. When I force quit I get the "serious error has occured" message. The only way around the issue is creating a new project and importing the old one.

Any ideas? It's a big project so I'm not looking to reinstall or do anything drastic.

I'm having the same problem today. Spinning beach ball any time I open a project that was started before today. I've tried about six projects on my NAS, and they're all doing the same thing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Pr Pro, but that didn't help. I copied a project to an external drive to see if it was the NAS, but that had the same results. I don't have any problems opening ProTools projects from my NAS. And, this problem is on both my 2019 RackMac and 2019 MacBook Pro.  Any idea if this is a related problem?

What sort of media are you working with? I've noticed that long variable framerate clips can give people excessively long Media Pending screens on startup.

I'm working with mostly DNxHD 1080p SQ 8-bit MXF files but this documentary does include low quality MP4/H264 files taken from many different sources. None are variable frame rate AFAIK.

In general it sounds like you have a pretty good configuration going on and are working with optimized media, but if you have a handful of phones clips in there I'd look out for those. Those would be VFR and potentially throwing a wrench in things.

Hi there,

We're sorry about the poor experience. We can get this checked. Are you experiencing this issue even after reopening the duplicated projects (the one you created after importing the original project in a new project file)? Have you tried clearing the cache & checked if it's working properly? Also, where are the media files used in the project saved (internal/external/network drive)?

Thanks,

Sumeet

Yes, I am experiencing the same media pending/beachballing after opening the newly created projects in which I've imported the old one. It certainly doesn't happen every time or with any consistency.

I just cleared the cache(from the preferences pane), restarted my computer, and when I opened the project it was stuck media pending/beachball. I let it sit there for around 5 minutes but it didn't seem to be doing anything. Hard drive didn't sound like it was being accessed and Activity Monitor showed very little CPU activity.

Media is stored on a USB3 GRAID and my media cache is on a USB 3 Samsung T5 SSD.
