Ahoihoi you beautiful people,

I'm looking to add a 10bit to my setup for color matching in After Effects and Premiere. (Davinci too, but this isn't the forum for that.)

I have a GTX1070 in my system and I mostly work with R3D footage, which are 10bit. I will also be getting a Decklink Mini Monitor 4K to output to the 10bit monitor.

My question is, would a Quadro or another similar graphics card be required to process the video files before outputting through the Decklink? Or is an I/O card the only thing I need added to my Windows 10 PC?

Best regards and stay healthy,

Josh

Solved, after some hours of research and asking around.

Quadros, or other OpenGL supported graphics cards, are needed to edit and see the application itself in 10bit. However, if you only want to see the preview in 10bit on a separate 10bit monitor, then only an I/O card e.g. video device is necessary.

tl;dr

Quadro+10bit monitor = everything in 10bit

I/O card+10bit monitor = full screen preview in 10bit

What I needed was the full screen preview, so I'll be set with an I/O card like the Decklink Mini Monitor.

Here was the article that cracked it for me, perhaps it's also of use to other memebers: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16454/what-cpu-and-gpu-to-edit-10bit-4k-video/p1
