Missing Audio For PS4/Sony Video Files - Solution

I am here to share a solution to a common problem I have seen all over the internet.

When importing videos to Adobe Premier from a Sony device(PS4 or Handycam), it seems it is very common for the audio to not show up in premier. It still shows up and works fine in VLC but for some reason cuts out half way once imported (even if you wait for it to conform and change all settings etc.) I do youtube and this made editing difficult.

The solution that fixes this without losing and video/audio quality:

1) Download Handbrake (open source, free video transcoder) link https://handbrake.fr

2) Click open source & select the vid that wont show the audio properly in premier

3) Set codec to MP3, bitrate to 192, & mixdown to auto or stereo

4) Click start encode.....

Weird proprietary Sony audio format is what causes this apparently. Was pulling my hair out for so long, and was unable to find a thread explaining the solution.

The tool isn't lightning fast but is a very efficient solution. Hope I helped all the others that were having this issue!

Hi Pappa_Z,

I am sorry for the audio issue. It seems like an issue with the variable frame rate. Premiere Pro currently supports constant frame rate only. It requires transcoding the variable frame rate files into constant frame rate in Handbrake.

Thanks,

Vidya Sagar.
