Missing Auto-Saves from Project :(

Really a depressing moment dealing with a missing sequence and a few nests. Was working on a short video that'll be premiering in a few days to help raise funds for a hospital but the project sequence is gone. It's discombobulating to see that my latest PRPROJ in the autosave folder dates Sept 9, 2018, at 9:02 p.m. but have a mass of Rendered files in my PREVIEWS folder that date to Sept 10, 2018, at 2:15 a.m. So I guess the autosave stopped working? I don't know. Anyone know how to recover sequences and files? I've been saving the project in an external hard drive. Any advice is much appreciated.

GoRickyRicardo,

Did you ever locate a copy of your project? Please let us know.

Thanks,
Kevin

Search your computer for .prproj files, I suppose.

As I learned ... painfully ... when I started in video post six years back, do NOT rely on auto-saves. Even under the best circumstances, after so many iterations it starts overwriting previous auto-saves, and if corruption has gotten into the project, in say 3 hours or so of working you can find your entire set of auto-saves are corrupted.

First, when you start working a project, do a manual save in the first couple minutes. This also seems to get the auto-saves started properly. If you haven't already saved the project with work in it, auto-saves sometimes don't seem to occur.

Second, and very important, do iterative save-as saves and then continue working on the new iterative project file. You have a string of saved project files with the history of the project this way.

Also, do save a copy and put it on another drive. Then backup those nightly or something. At least weekly.

These, btw, are all really basic Safe Computing 101 Tactics. Stuff we all just need to do in any app on any computer to be 'safe'.

Look in your Media panel.  If you find the sequence in a folder, just double click it.

In the future, don't rely on Autosave.  Save a copy of the project file to a drive different from the operating system drive on a regular basis.
