Missing Obsolete Files

Good day,

About a month ago I went in to use the write-on effect and couldn't find it. After some search I found a YouTube video where the guy showed how to add these missing effects (Obsolete Files) and included a link to download them. This was strange but I was glad to have found it.

However, I found that everytime since, when I start a new project I have to reinstall these effects. Now today, I have tried and tried and it will not allow me to add them.

I even updated to Pr 25 and still no luck. Does anyone know how to add them in a way that they stay? I tried going through Program Files and I was not sure where to add them so I didn't want to mess it up.

Using Windows (unfortunetly)

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10900X CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz

Installed RAM: 64 GB

Windows: 11 Pro

Version: 23H2

Pr version: 25.0.0 (Build 61) - this has been happening since last version of 24

Thanks in advance!

Those "obsolete" effects weren't GPU encoded, often had ancient and not-so-good math (in colorist's rigorous testing) ... and could cause other effects to drop out of GPU encoding processes. And ... all were used by less than 1% of the user base, according to a staffer's post.

That's why they were dumped. Old, not well written code by modern standards, used by very few users.

I would suggest using the Ae write-on effect instead, or ... there's some plugins from aescripts.com that can do this and quite a few other very useful text effects. You could check over there.

Thanks so much! That explains it. I do a lot of informational videos and use it to draw boxes or circles around items. Even after ten years of video editing I still stay away from Ae. I know I need to learn it but it takes time I don't have. Thanks again!

Boxes and circles are now fast and easy in the newish Grapics workspace. I kinda preferred the Essential Graphics panel to the new Properties panel, but the function is the same.

You can make shapes really fast, set width of the border, fill/stroke/shadow, all that stuff really quick. Animate them, everything.

But the write-on text thing was nice. Like you, I do Ae when I have to ... only. But they do have better text tools and properties/capabilities "over there". If you do much, it is well worth a few minutes to learn how.
