Question

Modifying color space only shows visual change when clip is put in a timeline, not in source.

Thank you in advance for your help..

My question: Is there a reason why, when I modify the color space of a clip, it only shows the visual change on the instance of the clip that is in the timeline, but not in the source monitor? i'd like to further tweak the clip from within lumetri color in the source window itself, but when i goto open the slip in the source window to begin lumetri color editing after changing the color space, it still shows the visual display that it did on import. the only way i can start the lumetri color editing with an active color space adjustment is to do so from within the timeline, but of course this only will effect that single instance of that clip in that particular timeline, and i am looking for a global edit to the source clip itself, which will be applied whenever it used in any other timeline in the future.

You need to understand the difference between Source and Sequence effects use and applications. A very useful distinction of applications.

Applying an effect to 1) a clip in a bin or 2) on a sequence with the Source tab of the Effects Control Panel selected applies that effect to every use of any bit of that clip on any sequence in the Project.

Applying to a clip on a Sequence with the ECP sequence tab active (normal timeline default behavior) only applies the effect to that bit of the clip on that sequence.

And clips in a bin are typically shown at "source" or original view.

Remember, sequences are only a set of metadata. "This bit, that bit, and that bit of these clips, apply this effect there ... " all is just essentially a series of text notes telling Premiere whatnot do.

They aren't any digital reality stored anywhere, just text.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...
