Mouse wheel function in the program window

I think the feature that changed the mouse wheel action in the program window from frame scrolling to zooming is the worst update ever.
I've been using this program for over 16 years, and I’ve been able to adapt to every other update—but this one is really hard to get used to. It feels like my working time has doubled.
Is there really no way to enable frame scrolling again, even through a combination with other modifier keys like Command, Shift, or Control?
When you spend all day working, even reducing a single click or a small cursor movement can make a big difference in overall efficiency
