moving media cache and scratching locations on an ongoing project : is it safe ?

Hi,

I"m quite new to Premiere and I recently learned that it's much better to set the media chache folder and the scratch disks location (for video and audio preview) on a different drive than than the media and the application.

I've got a pretty heavy project, multicam sequences with 20 synchronized sources. Now I'm adding other media on these sequences and things are begining to slow down.

For now all my media are on an externel SSD (samsung T7). This same external SSD is used for the Scratch Disks location. And the Media cache files and Database folders are on the system HD.

I have a 2nd external T7 SSD, wich could be used to set the Media cache and Database folders location, same for the video and audio preview.

First I'd like to know if this configuration is correct and would improve Premiere performances. And in this case, is it safe to make these changes on an ongoing project ?

Thank you very much for your help !

Correct answer Peru Bob

There is no danger in relocating the media cache and scratch files. It may take a significant amount of time to rebuild those files, however, so be prepared for that.

An internal SSD should be faster than an external SSD.

I would delete the cache and preview files and then change its location in the preferences.

Thank you,

I just did it, so now I've got my media on one external drive and the cache and preview files on another external drive. Now we"ll see if I get some improvement on the perfomances... I hope so !
