.mp3 and .wav files distorted in source

I use a Youtube to .mp3 conversion site to get audio for my videos in cc 2018, but recently when I play it in the source, or in the timeline, it plays back distorted and the source shows that the file shortens. I've tried converting it to .wav files as most people suggest, but that doesn't help. When I play the sources on a music player, like Groove, it plays back perfectly fine. Any idea on how to fix this?

note: The Youtube to .mp3 converter worked fine in cc 2017.
