mp3 files playback with some sort of distortion.

So I've just started editing with Premiere Pro and last night I was cutting some stuff together and it was set to an mp3 I downloaded. Everything was dandy last night but this morning when I came back, the mp3 wasn't playing back properly.

If I play the file in VLC or in Windows Media Player it plays fine, but in Premiere Pro and Audition (as well as the Groove Player on Windows 10) it seems to have some sort of distortion or an auto filter, like you would in Ableton or something similar.

I've tried it with other mp3s and no luck. I couldn't find any other posts about this. Please help me.

MilesK,

Try a totally different piece of source audio, ideally, an uncompressed original with a sample rate which matches your sequence settings, to test with.

Thanks,
Kevin

Use Media Encoder to convert to a WAV file, then replace the mp3 with wav. Pr likes wav files and doesn't always work well with mp3.

I've tried converting with Audacity and an online mp3 to wav converter but it still has exactly the same issue. I was originally going to convert it with Audition but it's the same issue.
