I cant get Premiere Pro CC to recognize MP4 files as anything but audio files. I tried working around it with the media encoder but had the same issue?

I have the same problem. MP4 videos created with Moment Camera app don't import - only the audio.  It seems like some at least some MP4s created with the iPhone's built in camera app do work.

Funny thing is that videos play fine in the source pane - they just don't import into the Timeline.

MP4 that doesn't work:

OK I'm replying to my own post.

To fix this problem, I used Premiere Pro to export my source video right from the media browser panel, to a new verison somewhere on my hard drive. When you right-click on the video, it's the bottom option 'export' in the contextual menu. I just used the default settings... H.264 high-bitrate, etc. The resulting video file can be imported into the timeline.

The only problem is that some videos now report that they are a different... format(?) than the project and do I want to switch the project format. That's a different matter.

Kennathesnake,

Sorry for your issue. Can you try renaming your media folder and reimport. Does the video import now? Let us know.

Thanks,
Kevin

MP4 is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing - For Windows Internet Explorer press the PRINT SCREEN button on your keyboard, and then do CTRL-V to paste the screen print from the clipboard into a forum message
