MTS files not importing in Premiere CC 2014

I just installed the new updates and tried to start a new project in Premiere CC 2014 and import MTS files. I get an error message saying "The file has an unsupported compression type."

I have worked with MTS files in premiere for a while now but I'm stuck going back to the old Premiere CC because it's the only way I can import these files. I thought one of the great new things in CC 2014 was BETTER support for MTS and other formats.

Please help! I am really excited about all the new features in this update and want to be able to use them for work but right now I'm super disappointed.

Thanks,

Jase

I've seen a lot of reports like this, so something is clearly going on.

Try renaming or moving the folder with the media.  Then open the project in CC 2014.  It will ask you where the media is, point it to the renamed or moved folder.

I had this same nightmare with tons of MTS files in a huge project that were not relinking when I moved to a new system. Renaming the original folder with the media and relinking seems to have done the trick...after my few remaining hairs fell out.

After all the hassles with MTS (also not being able to trim a project)... we are done with MTS. All future media is being converted to ProRes before importing.

Originally I thought it was very cool that you could import all kinds of codecs directly into Premier. But until Adobe fixes the bugs... it's not worth it.

Hi DK Miles,

Did you copy the entire folder structure prior to importing the .MTS files via the Media Browser? I found that most people that don't have a lot of Premiere Pro experience don't know they need to do that. This can cause a lot of issues when managing a project.

Not a bad plan of action if you want to trim media prior to importing it. You should also have better performance with this media.

Again, you typically should not have an issue with camera original files, you just have to make sure that you follow the protocol I just mentioned. If you are following the protocol, perhaps something else is going on with your workflow. We can discuss that in a separate thread, if you like.

Thanks,

Kevin

I have been using Prelude to import footage from SD-cards from Canon C100. It has been working well, until now. I have large projects I have not opened for a few months. When I opened them now the sound was gone from C100 clips, but everything else worked fine. Is really the solution to rename the folder, for Premiere to relink? This bug needs to be fixed.

Every time this happens, I loose valuable footage. I was working with a project, and it imported the .mts files just fine. When I reopened the project, two of my main files are now an unsupported compression in Adobe. Has anyone had luck converting the files or changing the extensions? I could cry. I've given up in the past, but there must be a way to fix this.

Typically this happens when you do not import the footage properly. You should be copying the entire contents of the SD card that comes from the camera, then import to Premiere Pro via the Media Browser. Any other method can cause you problems when working with camera original footage.

Hope this helps you in the future.

IIs this fixed yet Adobe? I've had a mix of all the problems above. Everything was working fine and I got an error which said I didn't have the correct video modules, then came the BSOD, everytime I restarted Premiere. I wiped my whole computer to factory default, reinstalled Windows 8.1, reinstalled all of my plugins and Adobe CC programs, and now my project is completely scrambled in Premiere. Repeated twice and finally got the audio in my videos to work but now there's only a white screen on my my Source and Program monitor when I try to play my timeline. I've tried CC Cleaner before each install, went back to previous versions, tried renaming the footage folder and still nothing. My project was started in the latest PP CC 2014 and it did work fine. Now I can't even get any .MTS footage to work, even in a new project.

NVidia GeForce GTX 765M / 2GB GDDE5

using AVCHD (.MTS) footage from a Canon C100

Can anyone please help. I've spent the last 3 days running this hamster wheel and my Final is due on Tuesday I have 60 + hours wrapped up in that project and I was nearly done. Absolute NIGHTMARE.

PLease help Adobe.

FInally got my footage to reload but now my program monitor and source monitor won't work. I've uninstalled, ran cc cleaner again and reinstalled a couple of times now. On the project mentioned above, all I get are blank white screens. When I start a new project, all I get are greyed out screens. I've read in a couple of threads to go to the project settings and switch to "render with software" and that doesn't do anything either. I've gone to my laptop manufacturers website and updated all my drivers, the bios, and processor. Can anyone help?

Also, the problem isn't just with .MTS footage. I've tried starting a new project with .MOV and H.264 and still the monitors are blank.

IS anyone out there?

thanks in advance.

Dear everyone, Go to download.com and find the K-Lite Codec Pack_Full and install. It seems that the new updates have been messing peoples system's ability to read Codecs. This fixed my problem and I've been searching all day every day for over a week now.

Weird issue. I copied all the files to a new folder then imported them and it worked. Have no idea why.

Thanks Easter Bunny

It's a workaround for this issue. Feel free to file a bug report here: http://adobe.ly/ReportBug

Sorry this occurred.

Thanks,

Kevin

I had to do this, move files to a new folder. To fix unsupported file type.

Worked 1 minute, cleared some adobe temp directories and pressed shift while i fired it up to get problem.

Canon C100 mk2 footage

Premiere is very sensitive and gets upset very often since going to CC for me.

Brilliant solution to a bug that shouldn't exist. I moved my files to a different folder and reopened the project = everything worked. Thank you!

same problem. not recognizing fs700 footage. renaming folder did not help. ADOBE?

I have also the fs700 and I was able to solve it. You need to hide the video files from premiere. Best to do is to close premiere and then move all the video files contained in the project in a completely different location (on the hard drive) . Then open the project with premiere and locate the files. From now on everything will work. Is one time operation.

Premiere CC 2014 was doing great and CC 2014 was fine and so cool just looking at it. Then I could import mp4 video  footages and .MOV Then I came across a who says he uninstalled his quicktime and installed an older version and it worked. So I tried it and it worked. So be it MAC or PC just install older version of qucktime. I downloaded version Quicktime Player 7.7.2 (37.65 MB) This is the link to download the older version of quictime: Old Version of Quicktime Player 7.7.2 Download - OldApps.com

You can try older version sequentially to find the one that will work for you.

Good Luck And God Bless You!

I have the exact same issue!

WIth reinstalling CC 2015 I just got this message for the very first time. Unsupported compression type? It never complained before!

Deleting the media cache files from the date and time I created the project DID HELP! After opening the project it could import the MTS files without any problem.

It seems that deleting those media cache files remedies all kind of glitches and hickups.
