Multi cam sync from 60+ clips and 2.5 hours of audio

I am editing a documentary. In one folder for example I have 60+ clips and 4 audio files from the day. One of these audio files is 2.5 hours long which it appears it was just left to record the subject as they went about their day. Of course there are 60+ video clips of this day as well. What is the easiest way without manually having to sync the audio with each individual clip, to automate where the software finds the corresponding audio to the video and slices it so that each video clip has the external audio attached to it? Thank you.

Hi Anthony,

You can sync your clips and audio using the Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence feature and then manually break them into smaller clips. Here's a summary of the steps:

Sync clips into Multi-camera

  1. Select the clips and audio files you want to sync in the Project panel.
  2. Right-click and choose Clip > Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence.
  3. In the Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence dialog box, set the Synchronization Point to Audio to sync by audio waveform.
  4. Choose any additional settings, such as handling audio and naming your sequence. I recommend setting Audio Sequence Setting to Camera 1, so it will only use your separate audio file and not the camera audio.
  5. Click OK to create the multi-camera source sequence.

Break up multi-camera into smaller clips

  1. Select the multi-camera sequence in the Project panel, right-click, and choose Open in Timeline.
  2. In the timeline, ensure you have all the tracks targeted and Sequence > Selection Follows Playhead turned off.
  3. Move your playhead to the first clip in the timeline, mark the clip (press X), and create a subsequence (press Shift + U). This will create a new sequence using only the video and audio within the in/out range.
  4. Use the Down arrow to move to the next clip, and repeat the process.

In the end, you will have 60+ sequences that you can use as nested sequences. They should display audio waveforms in the timeline.

Paul
