Question

Multiple aspect ratio in one video

Hi, I have a very peculiar scenario. I recorded a play for friend - 3840 x 2160. Most of the action happens in the center stage while some scenes are extended beyond the center stage . Please refer to the attached pic. The Yellow dotted line shows the area (793 x 321) where most of the action happens - almost 2hours.

The red dotted lines shows the area (1339 x 321) which happens for around 10 to 12 times, each of 2-3 minutes duration.

This is a one single video.

Requesting help and guidance to process this in a way that when there is no action on the sides and only happening in the center stage, it should be in 793 x 321. When the action happens in the balcony area - it should strech to 1339 wide.

I have already done color and sharpness correction.

This is the first time I'm editing a video, hence it would be great if you can provide step by step guidance. Thank you so much!

Warm Regards

Sachin

Hi Sachin,

Welcome to the community! In Premiere Pro, only one aspect ratio can be set for a sequence. However, as MyperPj suggested, you may use a wider canvas and then scale and pan to fit in wide or zoomed-in sections of the play as needed. Please let us know if you need any help.

Thanks,

Sumeet

You can play with the 'scale' and position properties if you'd like to zoom in/out of frame. If you make the sequence 1920x1080 (standard HD) your can scale your clips to 50% and it would look like your screenshot. Then you can play with the scale all the way up to 100% (twice the apparent size) and you will not loose any quality.

Thank you ..

If I understand you correctly, I should cut the video and then play with scale ... Right?

Let me try that.

Make copies from the OS of your project file so you can always go back. The in the project duplicate the sequence, and then in sequence settings, change the Frame Size to 1920x1080, then you can play with the scale and position up to 100%. You may need to select all your clips, right-click and then set to frame size, which will reduce all your clips to 50% and it should look like it does now.
