multiple default transitions - any way not to occupy entire clip for clips less than 30 frames long?

I'm working with image files on the timeline (stop motion style), & most of the images are only around 20 frames long.

Ideally, I'd like to soften the transition between images by using a cross dissolve, but I'm finding that when I apply multiple transitions across the entire timeline, the cross dissolve occupies the entire clip/image display time, which just looks blurry.

Is there a way to limit Premiere, so that I can apply the transition such that on a 12 frame clip, the transition only occupies 6 frames (3 on either side)? One added difficulty is that the clip display time varies, sometimes a frame displays 12 frames, 20 frames, 30 frames or 1:10...

Or is there a script/alternate method that could accomplish this?

Thanks!

i suggest to set the default duration to 6 frames or so (what ever your shortest need is). You can change the default duration in Preferences > General "Video Transition Default Duration". Then you can make manually adjust the ones that need to be longer. But my experiance with stop-motion editing is that the shorter, the better gets you a long way with dissolves.

You can set only one duration for transitions.  There's no way for PP to automatically adjust those in the way you want.
