Multiple Masks on Adjustment Layer

I have a screen recording that I want to highlight multiple areas of the screen at once. I have an Adjustment Layer above the recording with 'Brightness & Contrast' applied to darken the UI. I then apply an inverted mask, which works well, but when I apply a second inverted mask, the only thing that is masked is the intersection of the two masks, instead of two seperate inverted masks. How do I accomplish this?

I figured it out! Will leave this here in case anyone else might benefit:

Create an adjustment layer with Track Matte Key applied. Matte: set to video layer above (explained in next step), Matte Luma, Reverse. Add whatever brightness effect to darken the image.

Then create a Graphic layer above (this is what the matter references from the previous step). Add in white shapes for the 'highlighted' callout areas.
