Question

Music video audio sync help

I have recently filmed a music video a University module and in the process of trying to edit the visual to the audio with no much like and looking for advice and guidance.

I used my DSLR for all the shoots and what I did (which I thought would make it easier) was to record each of the angles/setups with the whole music track ie the artist mimed along to the audio being played in the room so from start to finish I have multiple video clips of him singing, playing the drums, guitar etc, and recorded the sound through the DSLR.

Did this as I thought it would be easier to them sync up each track in Premier Pro to the master WAV file of the studio quality recording of the song, I then could edit a segment of each clips wherever I wanted in the timeline. So now in Premier Pro (2017) I input all the files into the Project, drag the WAV full audio into the timeline. Then started to add one of the video recordings. Adjusted them about to see if I could along the visuals of the recording to the master audio but was difficult.

Been reading up on here and other sites and found the Synchronise option, which looked exactly what I was after. Did this with my first video clip, so highlighted the master WAV and the video clip/audio that does with it, Synchronise and great it worked, it adjusted the video/audio in the timeline to the master WAV file, muted the audio that went with the video and it all synced up with the master audio track.

So deleted the audio segment of the video clip (checked it was synced in line with the master WAV file still and it was) and then added a new video clip to the timeline onto another VIDEO line. Did the same, highlighted master WAV, then the new visual clip/audio, but this time when I Synchronised, it moved the master WAV audio clip inline with the video.

Which in turn made the first video clip out of sync with the master audio.

Tried this about a dozen time and seems it sync the first clip OK, but once you add another video, it always moved the master audio rather than the video/audio segment each time.

I'm always choosing the Synchronise to Audio and doesn't maker if I choose Track Channel 1 or 2 in the dropdown it ALWAYS moves the master audio track along when I add a second (or third) video clip. But only works when I initially add the first video track to sync.

Any advice would be grateful on how I can add all these clips and sync them with the audio of my master audio track. I can't see anything online to help me resolve this issue.

This is on a Mac Book Pro Adobe Premiere Pro (2017)

Adobe Premiere Pro (2017)

Thanks

    Hey,

I have the same issue. I have a master audio an some clips I want to sync with my master audio and premiere keeps moving the audio-clip (for some reason not always..??). this is annoying as it makes the auto-sync unusable for this purpose. is there any way to tell premiere to move the videoclips instead of the audio? manually syncing 40+ clips to one audio-clip is a bit of time consuming...

If auto-sync methods don't work, you may have to do it manually.

You can also try PluralEyes from Red Giant.  I recommend the version that works as a plug-in right inside PP, rather than the external software.

    Morning,

Thanks for the responses but that does not seem to working, when I add some of the clips and choose the multi cam, the below message appears.

Also in the proved video you are using one of the camera audio to sync the video together, but for mine, I need the clips to sync to another master audio file

BUT saying that, from the video you kindly posted, it is all shoot from one location, with multiple cameras, and you bounce between camera one, two and three as you go along. But mine is with a single camera, but recordings from different setups.

I'll show with a basic setup (I have way more setups but as long as I can get the fundamentals of doing this process I can then add further video shots)

Lets say I recorded three video clips of the artist singing/playing the whole song in each different location (he is miming along to the tune played in the room on a phone), and the audio is recorded on the camera for syncing purposes.

    Bass - Drums - Guitar:

Each video clip is different lengths due to the start/stop of the recordings prior to the song starts and the artist playing along etc.

I've added the MASTER audio track (which was recorded weeks before in a recording studio and is better quality of cause) into the Premier Pro Timeline and also added the three video clips (V2, V3, V4):

What I want to do, it sync all three video clips (V2, V3, V4) to the master audio (A1 in the timeline), remove the audio segments (or mute them) of each video so you only hear the master track (A1) and then edit the video tracks, so it goes between them ie two seconds of the bass, then three seconds of the drums, one second of the guitar, then five seconds of the bass etc to cover the whole song.

Here is me just randomly cuttings sections below, but of cause at the moment all three video segments are not synced up to the master audio track (A1) just did this was a visual to help you understand

If easier, here are all the pictures in one album:

    Any help would be great.

How about just posting screengrabs on your reply, rather than those rather unhandy links? Use the flower icon in the middle of the formatting bar at the top of your reply box.

    Hello Sia,

in addition to the posts before regarding multicam edit, here another idea (if syncing by audio doesn´t work):

Build your multicam by using clip markers: search in your videos for a certain clap/beat and set a marker.

Then select all marked videos, select multicam tool and use -> marker for syncing.

Especially for musik videos recorded with one cam (or no TC) this is the fastest way for me....

    Best,

Hi Sia - I recently made a video tutorial on how to use Premiere Pro's Multi-cam feature to sync multiple camera angles together. You can use this for your music video. Here is the tutorial: Multi-Camera Editing in Premiere Pro CC - YouTube

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Here's a page from the Adobe "help" manual ...

Create and edit a multi-camera sequence in Premiere Pro

This actually gives pretty specific details if you follow on through the lengthy page of information.

Have you looked at Multi-cam process within PrPro? I'd suggest going to the 'help' and tutorial files and seeing if that isn't more of what you need here.
