MXF file huge file size?!

Question

Why are MXF files so big?  Does anyone know an optimal preset for a 15 sec spot that would be efficient file size considering some of these wrapper settings make a 100mb .mov file turn into a 1GB MXF file.  weird. Any thoughts?

The size is chosen by the "flavor" of the DNxHD/R preset you've chosen if using the first DNx format options, or when using the MXF/Op1a format, the codec choices you make within that format setting.

Either way, the eventual file in Mbps or size-on-disk can vary dramatically from one preset to another.

So before "we" can offer advice, what are the needs for your deliverable? What are you using for ... and does the service/site have requirements?
