Question

My Clip Markers appear to be broken

I'm hoping this is user error and an easy fix that I'm overlooking, but regardless it is causing me a lot of frustration so any information or help I can get from the community is welcome. Even a simple "I feel your pain".

This is specifically related to Markers on clips within my video, the timeline markers work perfectly fine.

I have a video I am editing that has a lot of clips. I want to put markers on the clips because they are likely going to be moved around and I don't want to lose any notes/comments associated with them. Otherwise I'd put them on the timeline. It is worth noting that upon import (before they ever touch the timeline) I am creating proxies of the videos I've imported.

Here is how I've added a marker to my clips. I select a clip, and hit M. It puts a generic marker on the clip that i can't interact with. I find that if I hit M a couple times quickly, I get the marker edit window where I can pick colors, type notes, set duration etc. Closing that applies all those settings to my marker.. I can no longer edit that marker I just created.

Here is a list of what I can and cannot do with the marker's I've created on my clips:

I can:

Hover over the markers and read my notes as a tool tip

Use the next and previous marker shortcuts to jump between the markers I created

I can not:
Select the Marker via double clicking on it
Edit the Marker. When I double click on the marker nothing happens. When I go to the Markers menu, the Edit Marker option is grey

Right click the marker, I get a context menu but it has no options for doing anything with the marker

View video clip Markers in the Marker pallet. It shows my timeline markers, but when I select my clip to view the clip markers, the pallet is empty.

I did check the Preferences / Media / Write clip markers to XMP, and found that it is unchecked.
I have closed and reopened the software.

Premiere Pro 24.0.0 (Build 58)
Alienware Area-51M running Windows 11

You edit clip-markers in the source monitor.

Doubel click on clip in timeline to open in SM

Thank you for your reply. I've double clicked on the clip, but what do I do now? The source monitor has opened, but I still see no way to edit the clip. Double clicking again doesn't open a window, I see nothing in the Markers pallet, and when I open the Marker's menu drop down, Edit Marker is still greyed out for me.

Sorry I meant to say that when the source monitor opened, I see no way to edit the Marker, not the clip.
