Question

My Documents folder was migrated and now receive the "Could not retrieve the 'my documents' folder

The drive containing "my documents" folder was migrated to OneDrive. Premiere is now of course giving me this error.

I have checked within windows security to make sure that the "controlled folder access" is not causing any issues and it is currently turned off. Seems I just need to point Premiere to the new folder location but can't find any setting where this can be done. What would be the best way to remap so adobe recognizes the new location of my documents folder?

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the question and welcome to the forum.

It’s best to keep Premiere projects, media, and cache on a local drive—not OneDrive—to avoid sync conflicts, missing files, and slowdowns. Use OneDrive only to back up finished projects. If OneDrive syncs your Documents folder, create a separate local folder for Premiere work and point your projects there. Premiere doesn’t have a direct setting to remap Documents, but you can adjust project and scratch disk paths in project settings. This prevents errors and keeps Premiere stable. I hope the advice helps. Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Thank you for the reply! Yes, all of my projects and cahe are always stored on a local drive. I am not speaking of project files or paths editable within edit>preferences >media cache as all of those point to local drives. It's concerning where adobe natively stores "user-specific data such as custom workspaces, keyboard shortcuts, sequence presets, and preference files." These Adobe seems to default to the documents folder which in my case has been migrated. As you stated premiere does not have a direct setting to remap documents. Is this then created upon install? Would a complete wipe and reinstall of the program allow me to direct this path? Again, thank you for your reply!

Hey Michael,
I'm not in front of my Windows machine right now. Is it possible to change your Windows user profile’s Documents location outside of OneDrive? Let me know.

Thanks,
Kevin
