My sequence's playhead will not move and the preview windows are always black

My sequences only show black screens in both preview windows and I can't play the sequence either with both the playhead and the space button. I've changed the audio hardware, reset to original layout, cleaned out cache files, changed sequences, and restarted the program and computer multiple times. I don't know if this is relevant, but the program is the 2022 one, version 22.6.4, and I use it on a desktop macOS Catalina version 10.15.7. Does anyone know what is happening and how to fix it?

Hi @hqlmes ,

Thanks for bringing this up. Just curious—any specific reason you're still using such an old macOS version (10.15.7) and Premiere Pro 22.6.4?

I’d highly recommend updating both the OS and Premiere to the latest versions. I believe you’ll notice a significant improvement in performance and overall experience.

Thanks for the info and video @hqlmes. What model/year is your Mac? If you go to File > Project Settings, under the Video Rendering and Playback section, do you have 'Metal' selected for Renderer?

Hi. This is happening to all of my projects and sequences. I am able to see the tracks and make changes to a sequence, but I can't see them on the preview screens (which are always black). I also can't play the sequences.

Hi @hqlmes,

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums. Sorry for the frustration.

Is this happening with all of your projects or just a specific one? If a specific one, have you tried @Peru Bob's suggestion? You can do it in a new project through File > Import and select your project or through the Media Browser.

Are you able to make any changes to the sequence at all or see the tracks in your timeline? What if you make a new sequence?

Can you share a screenshot or screen recording of what this looks like?
