Need to tidy up how to add LUTs in Premiere Pro
I’m coming back to this issue as having experienced this myself it does need absolute clarity.
Although the Adobe help page gets you 95% of the way there it is not crystal clear which path to use.
https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/premiere/desktop/correct-color/add-color-effects/add-look-up-tables.html
Im my case I had a list of Log to Rec 709 LUTs to add on a relatively new PC install.
If you use the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\LUTs path you have to create the Technical and Creative directories yourself.
In my case only Input and Output Folders existed which Premiere install must have created. It does not appear to create the Technical and Creative subdirectories ready to use. A bit of a strange one.
Pasting my Log to Rec LUTs in the Technical and Creative sub directories still did not show up in the drop down lists in Lumetri management. Only the default Premiere lists were still displayed.
This is despite notes on this topic stating that they will be available to the Local User – I did not find them available after logging into Windows as the local user.
Even pasting the files in the Input subdirectory did not show up in the list when using the Modify\Color\Input LUT list. I had to add them manually. Then once they were all added in using the ‘Add’ button the whole list always shows up each time.
So input LUT problem solved.
For the Lumetri dropdown Lists, I had to use the alternative path C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Common\
The LUTs folder which is mentioned was actually was not there on my PC - had to create it myself. Only folder was PlugIns.
So then created the LUTs\Creative and LUTs\Technical folders.
Paste your LUTs in each of those new folders and they will appear then in the Lumetri Input and Creative Lists to pick whenever you like in Lumetri management.
Remember to close Premiere and re-open to ensure they get scanned the first time.
Oh …. a gotcha...when I created the Folder LUTs - the first time I mistakenly had Caps lock on and LUTS folder did not get scanned. It has to be LUTs ?. Doh.
All the above is for Windows of course (W11 25H2 version 26200.9168 and Premiere 26.2.2) but I believe the same logic will apply for MAC.
Hope this helps if anyone is doing this for the first time.
In summary, its all a bit messy and I think there is massive room for improvement to make adding LUTs more user friendly into Premiere Pro, particularly as more users are using Log Footage and Creative LUTs.
