New computer - "The selected file cannot be linked..."

Hello,

I just got a new computer. I am unable to open the projects I was working on my old computer as I get the following error message when I try to relink the files:

"The selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does nto match the original file's type (audio and video)."

I get this when I open the program and try to locate the files from there as it’s so much faster (it will find everything in the same folder by just finding one). If I skip this and just load the program, I am able to right-click->”Replace footage,” but the audio doesn’t work.

They are literally the exact same files that I moved from the old to the new computer. The only thing different is they are now on the same drive as the project I am trying to edit (hence why they need to be relocated) vs a backup drive where I used to store them (the files are hundreds of GB and my new drive is a 4TB SSD while my old one was only a 1TB SSD, which is why I had to have them on a backup 8TB drive and import them from there).

I tried to search for answers, but they are all so old. I tried some that don’t even have the options suggested and the only one I didn’t want to try was to rename the folder where the media is. I do not want to do that. The folder is named what I want it to be named.

Premiere is the latest as I just installed it on the computer. Computer is Windows 11 with a AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti (16 GB)/AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (486 MB) if that info is needed for some reason.

Maybe I am just missing a codec or something I had on the other machine?

Thanks for helping.

Best guess, it may be an issue with Dolby Digital. If the computer is new and has a new install of Win 11 you dont have any Dolby decoder. So if your media has Dolby Digital audio this can be the solution.

Yep, that was it. Just needed to download the Ac3 codec here. Problem solved. Thanks!
