New PP April 2018 won't launch. Back to older version.Plus, AE CPU problems

The new PP version won't run.  Splash screen comes up but crashes after a few seconds.  Uninstall, reloaded.... same result.  Went back to old version.

As for AE, new version started kicking up CPU failures.  First got error that CPU was out of memory.  So switched to Software only as the error message suggested.  Then got error messages in the render that the effects needed CPU Acceleration.  So I switched it back on and re-rendered.  About :20 into the render I got a 'Failure' and from that point on in the render the video was black... though there was audio.  Very strange.

MBP, Mid 2012, 10.13.4 High Sierra, 16 Gb Ram, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
