New transcription of source clips - the good and the bad

As i do a lot of corporate work nearly everything I do needs transcribing and then eventually captioning. The way transcription works in V23.4 is that you can no longer transcribe a sequence - youmus transcribe your source clips. On the whole I like this approach because as you cut your sequence the transcription stays in time.

However one thing I've noticed is if you use the transcription engine to find words it erases existing in and out points on your source clip in the source window. It would be handy if you could click on te first workd of your edit, mark an IN and then click on hte last word and mark OUT or better yet highlight the whole section and and use mark clip. Am I doing something wrong o is this the expected behaviour?

You're going to like this even better as you discover how it works. Sometimes it is deceptively simple, and other times almost impossible to figure out why it is not working as it should. Many of the problems being reported are easy to sort or have workarounds. I'm still discovering important stuff.

You can still transcribe sequences, and you don't have to transcribe clips. In sequence view, Transcript tab, click the 3 dots and pick "Generate static transcript." It warns you that this transcript won't update. But if you nest the sequence, that transcript will work just like a clip transcript.

Searching for a word and stepping through the finds did not reset the in/out for me. Even doing a replace.

To set the in/out manually, just turn off "Automatically set in/out points." You can navigate in the Transcript tab or the timeline, and use i and o to mark.

There are also many shortcuts for the Text Panel, most assigned by default, such as "Select to Segment End" - Shift+End.
