NEWB Q: YouTube Video dimensions and Premiere Pro

Hi,

I'm an absolute beginner with Premiere Pro and I've found the whole process of creating vidoes in it for YouTube very confusing.

Firstly: Where can you set/change the dimensions for the Project that you load video clips in to?

You can resize a Sequence but not the Project??

Secondly: Some of my videos will be 20 minutes long so I won't be using 4K output settings but I'd still like 2K, or thereabouts.
When I'm exporting I'm setting the output to be 2048x1152.
When I redownload my videos from YouTube though I find they're 1280x720, another commonly touted size, regardless of my output settings.

What shoud I be setting as my video dimensions and where do I need to set them to ensure I can produce graphics to the same dimensions?

I'm using some custom imagery, produced to set dimensions, in these videos so it's important to me that I know what size my videos shoud be created at and exported to.

Thanks.

PS- Hating Premiere Pro so far but then I hated Illustrator for 10 years before I finally learned it 🙂

start a sequence with the same dimensions and settings of your desired output (youtube),

when done, in your export settings, you can choose H.264, then from presets you have

a lot of youtube presets, or you can customize your own settings..

Please refer to this very useful information (for your case) from Adobe Help:

BTW: It looks like the videos you Download from YouTube are not the ones you Upload.

The Downloaded video will be a lower resolution so your 1920x1080 video will be downloaded as a 1280x720 video.

Good to know.

Maybe you should switch to Premiere Elements. Much simpler for someone of your seeming patience level.

<<You can resize a Sequence but not the Project??>

Yes, you can have many sequences in a project all of different sizes if you want.

Typically the standard is 1920x1080, that's 1080p. Why you have the slightly larger settings I don't know, and what advantage you get out of them also.

Prepare for an intense learning curve, and start watching / doing some tutorials. Sounds like you might even need some basic / general video guidance about formats, frame sizes, frame rates, codecs, etc.

Finding a good tutorial or set of can make the process fun and interesting. Good luck.
