Apologies in advance if this seams like a capatian obvious question but ive watched so many tutorials trying to figure this out my brain hurts and this was my last shot of hope to understand what exactly im doing wrong.( all include 3 photos A,B & C ) to illustrate where im just losing it. Basically i have a video of Lebron James dunking a basketball. He starts at (A). (B) He Dunks (C) He lands on the floor. So what i was doing this evening was attempting to set starting and ending keyframes so that i ould either speed up the dunk or slow down the dunk. So i set my key frames played the video and nothing. So im under the impression that if you pull the ending key frame further to your left it will slow down the video. If you move them closer togther it will speed up the video?Nothing. O.k now i think i should include on other picture (D) beause wi suspect here is a fundemental of keyframes im not grasping.

If i take my ending key frames and i attempt to pull them in effet control further away from my starting key frame it leaves the dunk and takes me further in the video. I dont think im understanding how to move the key frames within the effects control window without leavng the piramaters of the  Pics ABC. Im just not sure what im missing. THank you and help would be greatly apppreciated.

p>s The reason why i included pic  s just to illustrate my frustration that when i attempt to move the leyframe further out it just moves to a different art of the video. And it just seams like no matter what i dont i cant speed up or slow down A,B,C..Thank you.

From your screenshots, the only keyframes I could see were Position keyframes... which actually do not affect the speed of the clip whatsoever. I think, from your first reply, that you are starting to understand what the Position parameter changes: the left/right/up/down "position" (in geometry it would be translation or slide) of the video in the frame.

I think maybe the part you're missing is that just about every parameter you can change on a clip can have keyframes... which will allow you to change that parameter over time. If you see a stopwatch symbol next to a parameter (scale, position, or any of dozens of other things), that means that keyframes can be added for that parameter. If you want the Position of your clip to change over time, add Position keyframes. If you want the color grade of your clip to change over time, you can add keyframes to your color effects. If you want the opacity to change over time, add keyframes to that... etc.

It appears in your screenshots that you were trying to add keyframes to Position and expecting it to change the speed of the clip over time. You were adding keyframes to the wrong parameter... what you want is to click the stopwatch next to Time Remapping and adjust accordingly.

There are other ways to do this also... a search for time remapping tutorials will help you see the different methods and know which one is best for you.

It is possible but you're approaching it wrong. Please read the section titled:

Vary changes to speed or direction with Time Remapping

O.k i did read the link you had sent me. And i think i got a better idea of in reguards to positioning.Like if you had alower third or a graphic or something that you wantedto start off screen and bring on screen ect. Or even the actual clip its self that by manipulatin position values you can move it around. I was aware that by clicking the right clicking the click that you were able to manipulate the time however id always thought of that was something you did if you wanted to ramp up or slow down the clip as a whole i guess i never thought that if you wanted to speed  up or dslow down a certain part that you could use the razor to clip a certain part and speed it up or slow it down. I guess maybe i misunderstood something fundmentally about keyframes somehow i was under the iuimpression that you could by manipulating the keyframes on certain parts of the video thats where you would want to speed up or ramp down sections of the video?

I dont know i think i confused myself even further. I went into the time line and selected both the beginning and the end of the dunk and sliced them so that i could bring up the clip speed/Duration box and i wanted to slow down the dunk so i set it to %50.  The only problem i had was that when i played it back it was great 3 quarters of the way through and then at the very end it did some really quick jerky move like it popped ahead a mili second in the clip and tehn returned to normal speed.
