Newbie with Apple Log 2 HEVC and LUTs in Premiere 26.0.2 Windows 11

Hi,

I am very confused as to what settings need to be adjusted in Premiere to be able to use my iPhone 17 Pro Apple Log 2 HEVC footage (4k 60 fps) and apply a LUT via Lumetri. Scouring the net and AI none of the settings are worded as they are in the application and I have played around with no luck.

I’ve been using Premiere for many years but this is my first foray into using Log footage. I understand the concepts but can’t get the correct combination of setting in Premiere.

Please forgive me if this has been asked before.

Are you going to the Color Management options? All found in the Lumetri panel’s “new” Settings tab?

As it most certainly is there, along with something like 50 other options ...

My suggestions would be to reset the graphics white to the normal HDR only setting of 203 ... though that shouldn’t affect anything while in SDR/Rec.709, it’s just the normally used setting professionally.

And ... uncheck Input Gamut Compression ... as if you are using auto tonemapping and direct Rec.709 that is done automatically, and having the Input Gamut compression added in the Advanced section can at times “double dip” and is not recommended.

And ... skip using the Sequence dialog for CM, as you can do that in the Settings tab and one place is wiser, safer, and more clear as to what is going on.

Don't use a LUT. Set color management to auto detect log and auto tonemapping on, sequence probably to Rec.709. I think it will give a decent linearization for you.

Auto Detect Log is nowhere to be found in this version. That’s what I’ve been reading but it is called something different. I wanted to try out some of these creative LUTs that are available to see what they can do, not just a straight conversion to Rec.709.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi @LabMan -

What settings are you using for your iphone and Premiere?

Which Premiere version are you using?
