no clips will play

I can import mp4 files into the project tray, double click so they open in the progrm tray, drag into the timeline, but when I press play...nothing.  I can step through the video frame by frame, drag the marker and the video advances, but won't play.  I am a novice with premier pro, but have made a few edits and generally understand how it works.  I tried opening the tutorial to rule out some problem with my video source and have the same result.  Could this be a result of an update?  Can I roll back to find out? Thanks for any help!

Hello Mgrenadier,
No doubt my terminology is underdeveloped, yes I am learning. I didn't
expect anyone to be psychic, but didn't want to go listing every spec I
might think was necessary before being asked. I very much appreciate your
response and want to share how the Adobe chat specialist helped solve my
issue. I am running Premier Pro v14.3.0 on Windows 10. I explained to the
chat specialist that the play button seemed to not be working, with my
files in the source monitor or even with the files that load if you begin
the most basic tutorial. I could step through frame by frame, or drag to a
position in the clip, but not play. The solution came after deleting
cached files (700+ in my case) by running AppData (Win+R "appdata") and
navigating through Roaming>>Adobe>>Common>>"Media Cache" also "Media
Cache files"
Clearing those two folders did the trick. I hope today the student became
the teacher and maybe you, or anyone else who might find this relevant,
have learned as well. Thanks again for offering your time to help me.
May your existence be an improvement on the world.

first, we ain't psychic here ( at least I'm not - that I know of) so please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card.   and tell us the properties of your sources and your sequence settings.  your terminology seems weird.  we are talking about premiere pro?  If you double click on a clip in the project bin, it should load in the source monitor...  I know it may seem stupid, but it helps if we're talking a common language...   yes it could be the result of an update... did you do an update?  They don't happen by themselves... and when you do an update, you have the option of keeping the earlier version (we're talking about a major update from version 13.* to 14.*).   Don't be discouraged.  I don't mean to be snarky (well maybe a little).  we've all got a lot to learn...  so post back, answer the questions and hopefully we can solve the problem.
