No display after computer sleep wake cycle

In the middle of editing, I minimized premiere CC and put the computer (win 8.1) to sleep. When I wake up computer and go into premiere again, the display monitor sometimes becomes black and playing the timeline results in audio only and no video. The workaround is to quit premiere and restart it.

Any idea how to prevent this problem?

I'm running on Adobe premiere CC 2018 (latest on windows 8.1).

No real great solution for this. Windows 8.1 has always been marginal, win7 was much better. You can prevent the computer from sleeping. You do mean sleeping and not hibernating? The PP version # is on the help/about screen, always better to quote the real number instead of 'latest'. Of course we are all in on 2020 now since last year, the Win8 is what is holding you back from upgrading PP for the last 2+ years.

Try resetting the preferences:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site.
