No keyboard shortcuts working

None of my keyboard shortcuts are working. Not to cut, delete remaining timeline, loop, nothing. I just downloaded the free trial after hearing Adobe was great, but I'm wondering why none of my shortcuts work. I'm using a MacBook, does that make a difference? I've had lots of experiencing in editing material with other software, but can't figure this one out and it's slowing me down. Help!
